Survival tips needed
Posted by: Eagle888 @ 8:09 am

Hello all,

We’ll be starting a topic in this blog category dealing with preparedness and survival techniques to deal with emergencies such as power outages, natural disasters, rioting, food shortage possibilities, outdoor/woodland survival and more. If anybody wants to start a discussion or has some good info to share, then post away by entering a comment. A good way to learn skills to deal with emergency situations begins with swapping knowledge with those who may have already had practical experience.  For one thing, winter will soon be here and alternative fuels and heating will most certainly be taking a forefront in the winter months.  Your ideas are appreciated.

Just goes to show you how things turn out. I live in a very rural county in Virginia, and I moved here to get away from any big city problems. Guess what? This entire county’s water system is shut down right now, and looks like for about a month, because of e-coli in the treatment center’s system. There has been a run on store bottled water since all people hooked into the county water supply can’t use it. Elderly and infants are even not supposed to bath in the stuff. I’m on a well so it’s not affecting me. But I tell ya folks — people in America are simply not prepared for a massive disaster of mega proportions. By the way, without getting into the survival high tech data on home water filtration, the easiest way to treat water for the purpose of killing any and all “little nasty bugs things” in it, is to boil it. Bringing water to a rolling boil for just two minutes does the trick. So if you filter water through some clean cotton cloth or combo with, say, nylon lady’s hose, then boil it — it will be fine for drinking. (unless someone has dumped some poison chemical in it, that is)

Here are a few misc survival tips. 1) If you get lost in the woods and must spend the night, don’t believe the myth that you need to find some high ground area for sleeping since the temperature is warmer at high ground level than at a lower level. Yes, cooler air will settle in a valley, but the temperature difference of a few hundred feet will usually be around the 4-5 degree margin. Higher ground is going to have a lot more wind than any place around, and even though a thermometer may show a 4 -5 degree warmer temperature at high ground over lower, a thermometer doesn’t detect wind chill. A slight constant wind at night can make an effect on your body equivalent to subtracting 20 – 30 degrees from what is showing on a thermometer. So even if you need to drop to lower ground, your primary concern is find a place that is out of the elements and away from the wind. Nothing zaps body heat from you like wind. Higher ground will almost always have the wind you don’t want.   2)Remember — mittens make warmer hand wear than gloves. For cold weather invest in a pair of mittens.   3)The best treatment for chaffing between the legs from hiking is pure corn starch. Keep some in your backpack.   4) For an upset stomach, eat some cooled charcoal pieces (half teaspoon) from your campfire and chase it down with water. Don’t confuse the ashes with the actual completely charcoaled stick pieces for this purpose. It works.

Just discovered this and thought it may be of interest to some: How to be a Civilian Operator — Training Just 8 Hours Per Week http://www.survivalblog.com/2009/09/how_to_be_a_civilian_operatort.html

Great site Noah Quarter. Thanks. MMA (mixed martial arts) is the way to go, and I like the conditioning program they suggest. I am 60 years old. Up until 55 I stayed in top shape. Over the last 5 years I’ve been in and out of conditioning something awful. Right now I’m “out” again and I hate it. After Tabernacles in October, I plan to crank it up again for a winter project. One of the fastest ways to get in shape is in just 6 minutes a day. This is for any age. Doing a MMA/fanatic aerobic combo at 110% mega capacity non stop for ONE minute has been assessed to burn up fat and speed up conditioning 9 times faster than jogging. Doing 3 sets, twice a day (morning – early evening — 6 min total), then quit the pigging out on snacks, eat only moderate normal meals, and the pounds WILL come off fast, and the muscle tone packed on. Done right, this is a killer of a workout – but it only lasts a few short minutes so its great for those who hate spending time on a fitness program. Have your health care advisor check your heart status first. More info – I’ll email bloggers private. Oh yes, another thing. If you’re over 40 and think you can’t get in trim, lean, and mean shape, note that in the Bible, Caleb was as fit and strong at 85 as he was at 40. (see Num. 14:11) 60 or 70 years of age is no deterrent if you set the bar high and reach for it. Society has just tossed out its recommended couch potato psychologically suggested “over the hill age” at about 40. Ignore it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5LabiJ9LqTU New video I think is very important to watch this is on the swine flu vaccination which is going to be mandatory they are saying mid october is when they will be starting it and again in mid November this video has some information in the side bar as well also they will be giving those who have the vaccine shot a non removable bracelet with an rfid chip in it, it is to attach to the right wrist and also they will be giving those who refuse the shot another chance at check points this will be there final chance I think those refusing will be taken in buses to concentration camps. I would like peoples opinions on this what do you think people has the marking begun or soon to begin anyway first they plan on taking our weapons so wonder how they plan to do this so quickly possibly another false flag terrorist attack???

Here is a good web site wilderness outfitters has a lot of good ideas and tool making videos for wilderness survival for those of us like me who can’t be around to practice with our group I think since the colder weather is coming upon us would be a good time for a camping trip for us ( me and the kids) put some skill into practice test out what gear we do have find out what we need to buy and just get used to being away from the masses here in Fresno Yes I moved back took one of my former jobs back there are hills surrounding Fresno and well this is where I should have come back to the kids need help and with all of us pooling our resources gardening and being frugal I believe we can manage would like to move to a smaller town not too far away from jobs but this is doable. Blessings in Yah! here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/user/wildernessoutfitters

Are there still meetings being held for survival talk and training?

We have a Christian family centered sportsman’s group that covers a lot of survival topics as well. In case anyone is interested, this is not a militia type agenda that some patriot groups used to solicit for, so that absolutely won’t be promoted here. But yes, we do get together for some nice outdoor programs. We’re having a winter camp out sometime in January. Group members only, as this is not a novice event. Anybody making it here to one of the Feast Day gatherings during those times of the year can talk to us in person about our S.H.A.R.E group. (Safe Home Awareness Research Education) Not only do we all learn responsible survival skills, it’s a lot of fun too!

Eider down/Goose down are both heat retainers. Wool is just simply devine for its heat propertys as well. Do not over dress because sweat becomes an issue. Always carry candles, twine and a sharp hand axe and a large plastic ground sheet. Excellent for those times one may be lost.A compass is valuable and also verify some training on it. Moss generally always grows on the north side of a tree. Remember main river arteries and which way they flow, most creeks flow into main arteries and work as a general direction finder. Hope that helps a bit.

Survival Skill: Prayer we should never forget our one benefit we have over and above all else we do and will have to rely upon yes our skill and wits that is prayer now I am not the brightest light in the bunch I honestly can only read and gain knowledge at this time not that I don’t want to gain the hands on skills however with this economy I can’t afford to if I miss a day of work I can’t make my living expenses and I am barely doing that I don’t have a vehicle anymore so that leaves out a lot I could learn however I do have prayer I may not see my answer today or tomorrow but God is faithful and when the time is right or the circumstances that need to be in place for me and the door is opened I know Father will place me where I need to be to learn to practice it may be hands on alone or it may come in another way but I pray trusting That Father hears and the Answer is coming or being prepared for me. It took a few years for Father to help me through my situation with my ex and there was much work done in my heart to prepare me to be able to SAY enough is enough and my prayer was Answered I was strengthened to be able to Choose Gods way over wanting security with someone who not only did not Love Father but who believed he could do as he pleased and not have to worry about having to have a conscience or be reprimanded by breaking Gods laws as well as He could sin and not have to worry about anything He took Gods word and twisted what truth He thought he knew to mean whatever he wanted it to mean even to the point of thinking God was leading Him in the direction he choose to take. However I knew I could not compromise on what Father’s word says and is and to follow someone on a path of destruction willingly to my understanding is harmful to my relationship with Father and well as difficult as it has been I am confident that Choosing Fathers leading and what He caused to happen to sever ties between us and keep me safe was answered not in the way I was hoping for but Father has his reasons and I accept His knowledge is far greater than mine so being financially strapped as I am I am content and happy for the first time in many years even with this shaky economy with this age coming to its end I can Say in All things I can put my trust in Father and I know I am secure there regardless of the circumstances I think we forget the small miracle’s or blessings that come our way. No I don’t have a vehicle but I don’t have to pay auto insurance no I don’t have money for big ticket items for survival gear but I believe Father will bring that second income job soon that I need so I can get those things no I don’t have many survival skills But I have a loving Father who has promised to not forsake me and hasn’t yet and my trust is in Him maybe that was part of my lesson was to see I could depend on Him alone for all of my needs great and small after all I did make it from Texas with the help of family and friends I did make it back here I am making it now so I just want everyone to be encouraged to not forsake prayer it does work it is our safety net He is our Rock our hiding place and nothing is impossible For God to those who love Him. We don’t have a page dedicated for giving accounts of blessings we have received so I am placing this one here on the Survival blog and I actually think it is the first survival tool we need it costs nothing but some time talking to Father and we can do that at any time of day or night He is accessible to us 24/7. There is a Song I truly LOVE whenever I just get so discouraged it is a popular song but it truly strengthens me it is Called My Deliver well maybe that is not the title but I am going to post the words to this song as I think it fits for this advancing close of this age and You know we all are longing to See our Deliver Coming in ALL HIS GLORY! Now if that doesn’t remind us of how blessed we are I just don’t know what will! Blessings to All!
  14. Eagle888 Says:
Thanks for the faithful words sister. Prayer surely does go hand in hand with any survival efforts we may attempt. Yah bless!
